Why Should You Vote in the 2024 EU elections?

The European elections are your opportunity to choose who represents your country in the European Parliament, the only directly elected body of the EU. The European Commission and Council on the other hand are unelected.

Unlike the Parliament, the European Commission is appointed by the European Council (made up of EU heads of state and government) and the Parliament itself. The Commission proposes laws, but it is the European Parliament that debates and approves legislation.

The elections are important because they shape the future of European democracy and influence key policies across the Union. By participating in the European elections, voters have a direct say in EU legislative processes, and ensure their voices are heard in appointing the next Commission. Every vote counts in strengthening democracy across Europe.

Why donate to the International Association for Democracy IAD

IAD has taken major strides since its foundation, we are now a registered Charity in Scotland with over 40 volunteers from over 10 countries. We have had our Op-Eds featured on trusted news websites such as Euronews and EurActiv, run successful social media awareness campaigns and have increased our presence online to ensure our message reaches the wider public, all of which contributes to IAD’s mission of promoting and defending democracy around the world.

Though we have made progress in our efforts, we realise there is still much yet to be done.
