Why Should You Vote in the 2024 EU elections?
The European elections are your opportunity to choose who represents your country in the European Parliament, the only directly elected body of the EU. The European Commission and Council on the other hand are unelected.
Unlike the Parliament, the European Commission is appointed by the European Council (made up of EU heads of state and government) and the Parliament itself. The Commission proposes laws, but it is the European Parliament that debates and approves legislation.
The elections are important because they shape the future of European democracy and influence key policies across the Union. By participating in the European elections, voters have a direct say in EU legislative processes, and ensure their voices are heard in appointing the next Commission. Every vote counts in strengthening democracy across Europe.
